KARACHI: The second day of Trade & Development Authority of Pakistan and Fashion Pakistan’s export showcase was held at a local hotel in Karachi, attended in full by eminent members of the media and fashion industry. There were exciting photo booths and snack bars near the red carpet area, where all the attendees let their hair down and had lots of fun. Another noteworthy element on Day 2 was the fact that even without celebrity showstoppers gracing the ramp, the event created a buzz among all industry bigwigs as the entire concept of Pakistan showcasing exportable apparel on the ramp for all buyers, sellers and clients is a unique venture in itself. A total of six designers showcased.
The collection consisted of a white colour palette coupled with colourful Multani sheesha work with lots of overcoats, sundresses, drapes and capes. Peplum tops, straight pants, skirts and stunning jewellery like maatha patti and earrings were the highlights of Amna Aqeel’s collection.
Our favourite Pakistani leather and accessories brand was the next to showcase. Leather bags for girls, some with floral brooches stood out in colours of black, red and green. As for men, there were leather briefcases, travel bags and satchels in grey, black and brown. The wardrobe was done by Wardha Saleem.
Jeans and pants paired with short, cotton coats and jackets in a colour combination of greens and blacks were the key features of Zuria Dor’s collection. Silk off shoulder jumpsuits and denim peplum tops with flare pants with lots of statement accessories were the highlights. There was one denim top with emperor sleeves which had white embroidery on its sleeves, paired with skinny jeans that really stood out from Zuria Dor’s collection.
The Karachi-based designer showcased a lot of denims with embellishments as well as maxis and tops paired with 3D print skirts and floral tights. I liked the variety and the quirkiness to Adnan Pardesy’s collection.
Nauman Arfeen’s collection was set in a white colour palette. White organza capes with floral printing at the back totally got my attention. Off white shalwar kamiz paired with white short coats stood out. I wouldn’t say the same about Nauman Arfeen’s womenswear but his menswear game is the strongest.
Out of the entire autumn/winter collection that Maheen Khan showcased, her colourful sundresses set in a colour palette of red and green stood out the most.

(Nasdaq:SSYS), the 3D printing and additive manufacturing solutions company, today announced its ongoing collaboration with fashion leader threeASFOUR and New York-based designer Travis Fitch – debuting one of the designers’ most elaborate and intricate 3D printed dresses during New York Fashion Week. Entitled ‘Oscillation,’ the piece is comprised of 30 individual and highly precise multi-color, multi-material 3D printed parts created via assembly of 270 unique design files. The 3D printed dress serves as the centerpiece for threeASFOUR’s ‘Quantum Vibrations’ collection, unveiled for the first time on Tuesday September 13 at The Hole Gallery in New York City.

Drawing inspiration from source energies and primal, universal vibrations, the collection explores a series of graphic 2D patterns created in partnership with Travis Fitch. Leveraging Stratasys’ color, multi-material 3D printing technology, threeASFOUR brought these vibrational forms to life in range of vibrantly colored 3D printed materials – representing the designers’ most intricate and complex creation to date.
“3D printing is transformative for designers aiming to take complex designs and realize them as a wearable garment. In the case of ‘Oscillation,’ Stratasys 3D printing enabled us to visualize 3D patterns as they truly are – complex, interwoven circles of energy, transforming in shape, color and flexibility as they radiate around the body,” explains Adi Gil, threeASFOUR. “The stellar parallax of the patterns, the way in which they transform as the viewing angle changes, is only possible through 3D printing.”
The 30 unique dress components were initially printed as flat, unwrapped patches that were later assembled on the body. With Stratasys’ color, multi-material 3D printing capabilities, including advanced precision and the ability to vary material properties, the designers were able to recreate even the most intricate vibrational patterns and geometries without compromising the flexibility and wearability integral to the design.
Having previously taken inspiration from natural, biological forms, threeASFOUR designers – Gabi Asfour, Angela Donhauser, and Adi Gil – continue to reference this theme in their latest works. ‘Oscillation’ draws from an interplay of energies evident both within the body and across the wider universe. As the third collaboration with Stratasys, ‘Oscillation’ follows the debut of the landmark 3D printed ‘Pangolin’ and ‘Harmonograph’ dresses in the designers’ Fall/Winter collection at New York Fashion Week earlier this year. These first 3D printed pieces were key to threeASFOUR’s successful ‘Biomimicry’ collection, spurring threeASFOUR to further test the extensive potential of Stratasys’ 3D printing technology.
As Gil explains, the designers have now been able to push this technology even further to create the new 3D printed ‘Oscillation’ dress, produced not only in varying material thicknesses, but also in a spectrum of vivid color gradations: “The bio-inspired coloration, corresponding to fluctuations in shape and size, is only achievable with Stratasys PolyJet 3D printing technology. As the nodal patterns thicken, scale, and undulate, the color gradations respond accordingly to accentuate the geometry. Using a vivid color range, we were able to construct a multi-dimensional textural surface; a screenshot of a dynamic, oscillating waveform.”
To effectively produce the gradated coloration, each print was digitally split into nine layers of less than one millimeter in thickness. Individual layers were assigned a particular mixture of color and flexibility for the overall effect, with nearly 300 separate design files used to complete the landmark project.
